Chimney Liners
A chimney is a masonry or metal structure that surrounds a flue. A flue is the inner-most part of the chimney usually made of clay or metal. The chimney flue serves two purposes. First, it vents the products of combustion that contain hazardous and noxious gases such as carbon monoxide so that it does not enter your home. Second, it keeps excessive heat away from combustible materials in the structure of your home.
It is good to realize that it does not take a chimney fire to cause problems. Excessive heat transferred through cracks in clay tile, missing or soft mortar joints, or complete lack of a liner can cause combustibles to ignite. Combustibles exposed to excessive heat over a long period of time causes a change in the molecular structure of the combustibles. This molecular change causes combustibles to ignite more readily at relatively low temperatures.
When installing a liner in a chimney structure, it is extremely important that the installation process and the materials used are right for your system. Liner sizing and selection of alloys can determine how well your system works as well as how long it will last. With this in mind we recommend that you have your liner installed by a professional.
